Alvechurch continues to build its own boats which is the only way we can be sure that they will withstand the rigors of life in a hire fleet and give the best possible service for many years.

Each Alvechurch built boat comes with a pedigree going back over thirty years. It is this many years' experience within our boat building team that makes an Alvechurch boat something special. We have but one aim and that is to give you a boat that will enable you to fully appreciate the joys of canal cruising.

Tourist Board AwardS

Alvechurch are very pleased to have been awarded the Heart of England Tourist Board "Hire Operator of the Year" Silver Award in 2002 and Gold Awards in 2003 & 2004. This website also won the "Tourism Website of the Year" Silver Award. We are also delighted to have been nominated in in the 2006 British Travel Awards, under the category of BEST UK BOATING OPERATOR and in 2008 given a Green Apple Award for environmental best practice. This website has also been short listed for the Excellence in Tourism Awards 2008 for Tourism Website of the Year- Commercial

A HOLIDAY THAT WON'T COST THE EARTH

Not only are narrowboat holidays one of the most relaxing and rewarding holidays around, they are also chosen one of the ‘greenest’and won’t ‘cost’ the earth. In fact this holiday is estimated to be some 20* times better for the planet than spending two hours flying for a holiday overseas.

But more than that, you will be taking one of our boating holidays. Not only do we care about the time you enjoy on the boat, we are also
interested in the wellbeing of the waterways environment and other precious wildlife that will help to make your holiday so special. That’s why, in addition to a number of initiatives to reduce our impact on the
environment, at no cost to you, a percentage of our profits go into “The Waterways Trust Green Fund”. The Waterways Trust is a registered charity which works to promote and protect Britain’s waterways. The Green Fund will be used by the Trust to invest in low carbon technologies and other environmental projects such as creating new habitats. These projects will help mitigate the carbon emissions and environmental impact of managing the waterways.

In addition, if you wish, you can further reduce the impact of your holiday on the environment by off setting your own travel to and from the boat with a voluntary donation through us to the same fund. We suggest £5.00 per car all of which will go directly to “The Waterways Trust Green Fund” which you can indicate on the booking form. In supporting this we are both being environmentally responsible in a way that directly benefits the waterways upon which your boating holiday has been taken, and which will help sustain and improve them for future enjoyment. I am sure you will enjoy one of our Greener Holidays with a clear conscience.

Following the launch of our Greener Holidays campaign in 2008 we are pleased to report on some of the projects which are being
initiated as a result of the donations from customers and ourselves to “The Waterways Trust Green Fund”.
A geothermal heat pump is being installed at an activity centre on the bank of the Union Canal. This form of heat pump utilises
the temperature of the ground as a heat source and a heat sink to provide both heating and cooling for a building. The canal will
be used to provide the water for the pump, doubling the sustainability and environmental credentials of the project.
Provision of cycleway and cycle hire along the Montgomery Canal to encourage sustainable use.
Construction of approximately 300m of towpath from the Worcester and Birmingham canal onto the newly restored Droitwich
canal to encourage people to walk or cycle rather than drive.

* Based on flying a family of four to an average European location compared to a family of four taking an average hire boat holiday.

Alvechurch Waterway Holidays continues to offer its customers greater choice.
You will find 11 different start bases and 4 different brands in our free boating holidays & short break brochure providing access to almost the entire canal network. Click here for our free boating holiday and short break brochure.
